Playlist for a Friend

I love music. From singing to playing the piano to just listening, I love it all. It’s such a creative way to say and express how we feel. I get lost in lyrics and the rise and fall of a score. A day without music would be just too quiet.

I also love to share great music. I love to make mixed CDs and frequently make CDs for my good friends. I am terrible at keeping up with routine (except flossing – I am a devoted flosser) but I am going to try to commit to a blog series I call “Playlist for a Friend”. In this series, I’ll simply share the playlists that I put together for my friends. The playlist below went to my dear friend Heather. Hopefully you will look up some of the music and enjoy it as much as Heather and I are! Right now we have Princess of China on repeat.

Music + Rain

It’s raining again today in Dallas. If you follow the weather, you know it’s kind of intense down here-flash floods and tornados. I love extreme weather. (Just not driving in it.) Since it is raining, I feel it is only appropriate to give you all another rainy day mix. This mix makes me think I should be cooking or at a patisserie in France. If only…

Enjoy. Stay dry. Wear rain boots.

Dream a little dream of Me- The Mama & The Papas

Secret- Maroon 5

Isn’t it Romantic – Tony Bennett

How Can You Mend a Broken Heart- Al Green

La Vie en Rose – Edith Piaf or Louis Armstrong

A Kiss to Build a Dream on – Louis Armstrong

Married Life – Michael Giacchino

Old Cape Cod – Patti Page

Time after Time – Chet Baker

Sunday Kind of Love – Etta James

Hopeless Romantic

Warning : This post is extremely girlie. If you don’t like rom com’s or love or have no heart please close this page immediately. All others, read on.

I have to admit I cannot wait for “The Vow” with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams to come out. This past weekend, my friend played the trailer for me and now I am hooked and anxiously waiting for Feb 10 to get here. I have been in need of a good new rom com and “The Vow” looks like it is going to be right up my alley. If you have not seen the preview here watch this:

A few reasons why I am super excited to see it:

  1. Great couple. Rachel McAdams is wonderful and there is not one movie I don’t love her in. And Channing Tatum…not only is he good looking he is also such a man. I absolutely LOVED him in Dear John. I can’t wait to see their chemistry.

  2. It’s based on true events. I love that a man actually romanced his wife for a second time. Talk about love and commitment. That is love.

  3. I just love a passionate, dramatic romantic comedy and I don’t feel like there have been any new rom com releases lately. What girl doesn’t love to live vicariously through a movie for an evening? I have a feeling this will be up there with movies like “Dear John”, “The Notebook”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “PS I love you”.

So in my excitement, I decided to make a playlist recommendation from watching the preview. If I had to make the soundtrack here are a few songs I would think about including:

Green Eyes – Coldplay

You Belong to Me – Jason Wade or Carla Bruni

She will be loved- Maroon 5

This Year’s Love – David Gray

Fix You – Coldplay

If it Kills Me – Jason Mraz (from the Casa Nova Sessions)

Look After You – The Fray

When She Comes Around – Ben Rector

Edge of Desire – John Mayer

Enchanted – Taylor Swift (it was in the preview so I can’t take credit for it)

I just don’t think I’ll ever get over you – Collin Hay

When a Heart Breaks- Ben Rector

Sideways- Citizen Cope

Return to me – Dean Martin and Warren Luening

Life’s Soundtrack

This past weekend I went on my first adventure of the year with my friend, Linda, to Oklahoma City. We kept laughing at ourselves all last week because we were so excited to go and  talked about it so much that it almost sounded like we were going to New York or LA or some where super exciting… No, just good ol’ OKC. But as we discussed yesterday on the ride home, it’s really not the city that matters, it’s the people there that make the city. I guess that is why romantics say “home is wherever i’m with you.” And there are some good people that I love dearly in OKC.

After such a fun, busy weekend we were super tired and the whole trip home was gloomy so we created the perfect mix for the weather. So if life had a soundtrack (and I so wish it did), this would be mine/ours from yesterday and today.

Kaleidoscope Heart- Sara Bareilles

You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me – She & Him

(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay – Sara Bareilles *

Easy – Rascal Flatts & Natasha Bedingfield *

You and Tequila – Kenny Chesney *

Back to You – John Mayer

Think of You – A Fine Frenzy *

Crazy Girl – Eli Young Band*

Last Request – Paolo Nutini *

Let it Die – Feist

A Little Bit Stronger – Sara Evans

St. Patrick’s Day – John Mayer

The Only Exception – Glee

Sunday Morning – Maroon 5

Merry Happy – Kate Nash *

I put an asterisk next to the songs that we really loved so if you don’t look up every song you will know which ones you should definitely without a doubt look up.

Happy gloomy Monday from Dallas!
