Those who paved the way

I love this pic I snapped of my sweet Wesley’s grandpa. Wes adores his grandpa, Bud, and we were lucky enough to spend a weekend with him a few weeks back. Bud always makes me laugh and has the funniest/best thoughts.

I’m excited to spend the week of the Fourth with views like these. I’m in need of a view that does not include a computer…

My brother proposed last week. It was fun to photograph it all. What a happy couple!

I’ve been in and out of photography course since High School. Each teacher tells me something new or reminds me of lessons lost. I’ve read many different books and text books but I have never been quite the reader that I wish I would be. Although, I have learned that pulling my nose of the book and trying to take the photos can teach you tons.

One book that I absolutely love and completely recommend for anyone who likes photography (or quotes) is Photosynthesis- A Simple Guide to the Magic of Photography by Bryan Moss.

It’s short, simple and to the point. It’s not heavy in content because he lets the photos do the talking.

He shares his photos and others photos. And they are all gorgeous. They are not posed engagements or something from a wedding but life. Real life. The pain, the beauty, the little moments…the kind of photos that make you feel something.

Here are a few insights that he shares (and I’m sorry, I have no memory of how to properly cite work and quotes so please know all of this came from Bryan Moss’ book that is mentioned above):

“We can define intuition. We can quote hundreds of famous people about its undeniable role in peak performance. But if we try to control it, it becomes more elusive than ever. “

“Often our favorite pictures are unexpected. Something happens that is totally unplanned and could not have been predicted. It’s important we don’t disable that serendipity.”

Here is what a couple pages look like…

Magic

Tom Robbins said it best when he said “using words to describe magic is like using a screwdriver to cut roast beef.”
