I’m excited to spend the week of the Fourth with views like these. I’m in need of a view that does not include a computer…

Adventure: San Fran

A few weeks ago, I went to San Fran with my bestie. We stayed with her lovely cousin and his wife in Oakland and spent four fantastic days exploring the wine country, Haight Ashbury, Salsalito, Mission, Lombard St (because you must) and Oakland. It was a great trip!

This is what I saw from where I stood.

(Please note a perk- or a drawback however you see it- to traveling with me is that I take tons of photos of my travel companion…hence the many photos of Gucci).

Since everyone is doing their year in review I decided to jump on the boat and do the same. Here are the adventures, happenings and big moments for me, Lori Wilson, in the year 2012.

Happening:
I started off 2012 by accidentally stabbing my hand with a tool (a crows foot). There was a lot of blood, I got five stitches and I heard the term be tough more times that night than ever before. I did include a photo of the stitches below so scroll quickly if you have a weak stomach.

Adventure and a big moment:
I traveled to Las Vegas for the first time and then went (by myself) to the Hoover Dam and the GRAND CANYON!!! That was a big moment as I have always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon. Cross that off my bucket list.

I had a great weekend with my best friend down in the Texas Hill Country. We ventured over to the vineyards near Fredericksburg and then to the Texas Wine Festival in Gruene. It was such a fun adventure with her and just what we both needed. We laughed a ton, drank a ton of wine and just relaxed. It was a great weekend of just being. Great friends are the best because you don’t feel like you have to try or act a certain way… you can just be. And that is how it is with Gucci.

Here are few photos I got of here and some that she got of me. She is turning into quite the photographer!!!

New York City Trip Guide

” The days are long, but the years are short.” Gretchen Rubin nail it when she said that. Charles Dickens also gave great insight when he said “There is never enough time to do or say all the things that we would wish; The thing is to do as much as you can in the time that you have.” I can only imagine how much less time he would have if he lived in todays world. With pinterest, facebook, blogs, Olympics, primetime TV, iPhones, iPads, easy travel, dinner dates and cocktail parties to name a few. We have all these things to make life easier and more accessible but I feel like all these devices and opportunities just continue to distract us.

All that to say, I have been distracted and am finally posting about my New York trip(s) from June and May. I hadn’t been to New York since I was in 6th grade and was then lucky enough to go TWO times this summer. Both times were a blast and I wish I could be there right now. Instead of telling you everything I did I am going to give you the recommended highlights.

Lori’s recommended highlights of NYC:

The High Line in Chelsea – really it’s a must do

– Once the musical – no wonder it won the Tony for the best musical. It was phenom.

-Brooklyn Flea – it’s not your typical flea market, it’s more a gathering of artists and then some antiques. Just don’t go when it’s the hottest weekend of the summer.

-Central Park –  I loved walking around the park and I loved going to the boat house and just having a glass of wine. Picture this: red wine in hand, comfy leather chair, pretty building, piano player and a view of the lake. It was heaven.

Mood Designer Fabric – If you are a sewing enthusiast like my friend, Susan, and I are or just a follower of Project Runway, then you are sure to love Mood. Insider tip: it is on the 3rd floor and does not have a store front.

Fish’s Eddy – “They do dishes.” This store somewhat reminds me of Crate and Barrel but with a quirk. They have a Web site which is so worth checking out. We spent a good hour in there and if you like Crate and Barrel type places, I guarantee you will like Fish’s Eddy. While you are on their site be sure to check out their story, it’s a good one.

SoHo – I just loved the neighborhood and the shopping.

Becco – my neighbor here in town recommended I check this place out for dinner after the theater and I was so glad we did. If you go, get the three pasta special and check out the bottles of wine on the back of the menu. They are all $25 because they want you to not be swayed by price and try new things.

-Lillie’s Times Square Bar- definitely a fun place to see not only for good drinks but also because they are all the talk of the bar and restaurant world in NY since they tore out their second story and are paying for the half the space now. But the ceiling is so high and you don’t feel so cramped.

-Tir Na Nog – this Irish bar is one of the bests in town. The staff is friendly, the beer is good and you are sure to hear some authentic Irish accents.

– Stone Street – When the weather is nice the restaurants move the tables out to the street giving it a European feel. We went to a place called Beckley’s (I think) and got a burger. It was good, but you know I love a good burger anywhere, anytime.

Other places that were fun to see:

DUMBO

Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

Ride the Staten Island Ferry… just there and back

St Patrick’s

The MoMa

The Guggenheim

Wall Street

Grimaldi’s

Rockefeller Plaza

Ride the Subway

Grand Central

The Flat Iron

Washington Park

Bryant Park

The Boat Basin

To do next time?

Battery Park

The Met

World Trade Center Memorial

Go to Carrie Bradshaw’s Stoop

And I really like this photo from the Union Square farmers market.

I am excited to say that I am leaving for New York tomorrow morning! In case you were just asking yourself, “wasn’t she just in New York this past month?” yes, you are correct. But this time, I am going with a good girlfriend and we are going to Brooklyn Flea, Once the Musical, Evita, the Guggenheim, hopefully Serendipity and the list goes on. It’s going to be SO much fun.

I got a cute purse at H&M yesterday, so cross that off the list and now on to packing. Packing has become quite the dilemma. My OCD self likes to make a list of outfits to wear each day so that I…

1.       Actually look at the weather and know what to expect

2.       Don’t over pack (In the past, I have taken WAY too much on trips.)

3.       Actually bring comfortable shoes

4.       And finally, so I don’t look like a hobo with mismatched outfits since I didn’t plan.

So here I sit, searching my brain and blogs/pinterest for cute outfits. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

According to Mr. Al Roker, it is quite steamy this morning at 73 degrees in the Big Apple. Speaking of the Today show, I do have to say that even though Ann Curry drives me crazy, I did like her yellow dress this morning. However, I think Natalie Morales would have looked way cuter in it.

Anyway, here are some jumping off points including hair options which can all be found here. Thoughts? Concerns?
